Cuba Faces Pressures aimed at Toppling the Socialist Revolution

Havana, Oct 16 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee and Cuban President said that Cuba is currently facing pressures and challenges aimed at having the Revolution collapse.

In an interview granted to Cuban journalist Arleen Rodriguez and aired on Cuban television on Monday, the President said that Cuba is undergoing a situation of top pressure, economic asphyxiation aimed at making the Revolution collapse, break the unity between the government and the people and deny the work of the revolution.

Addressing concerns and opinions shared in Cuban society these days, Diaz-Canel said that it would be too idealistic to think that everything done (by the government ) has been well done, that all is perfectly done or that the Cuban leaders are right in everything, that’s why –he said--everybody has the right to criticize.

The President said that everything is a result of the chase stemming from the strengthening of the US blockade, of the huge subversive campaign of degrading communication and full of hatred to discredit the revolution and everything they do.

He added that under such difficult circumstances it is impossible to find the right time to implement certain measures as he referred that since 2019 Cuba has been the target of the worst blockade ever, then it was included on the US list of states sponsors of terrorism, while shortly after that the COVID-19 pandemic appeared.

These facts affected the country’s major income sources, the revenues, tourism, exports; and Cuba did no longer count on financing to repair its power plants or to purchase fuel, food, raw material and supplies needed for several productions, and to provide goods and services to the people.
The head of state noted that such circumstance only left two alternative was to take: surrender or fight, while surrendering meant implementing neoliberal policies letting the people on their own, fighting prioritized human life. The President then recalled how the battle was waged and won with the help of the people, the Cuban health system, international cooperation, human solidarity and local scientists who developed the Cuban COVID-19 vaccines.

What would have happened if we hadn’t developed our own vaccines on time? Diaz-Canel asked as he went on to recall the difficult moments during the accident at the Havana Saratoga Hotel, the massive fire in the oil depot in Matanzas, torrential rains and tropical storms that occurred later.

Out of those events came this concept of creative resistance, he noted.

During his conversation with the journalist, the Cuban President explained about the recent implementation of projects like the monetary overhaul and the e- banking process amidst adverse conditions, while their impact and deficiencies are being considered with rigor, and all suggestions to advance are also analyzed.

The head of state also stressed the important role being played by the micro, small and medium companies as new economic agents who are contributing to solve different problems, always recalling that the state-run companies are major actors in Cuban economy, and this means that the main production means will always be owned by the state, the people

He also denounced imperial intentions to turn the Cuban private sector in the spearhead against the revolution.
