Cuban authorities congratulate Ministry of the Armed Forces on its anniversary

 HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 16 (ACN) Today, Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, expressed his gratitude to Army General Raul Castro, founding minister, chiefs, officers and soldiers of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces ( MINFAR), on the occasion of the founding of this ministry.

On X, the head of state described the institution as heroic and dignified, and highlighted its work in safeguarding the sovereignty and principles of the Cuban Revolution.

The creation of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the appointment of comrade Raul as its minister is an important fact in Cuba's revolutionary history, he added.

Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, sent congratulations to the members of MINFAR who throughout history have been guarantors of the security of the Homeland and examples of dedication to Cuba.

In a message posted on the same social network, Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, congratulated the members of MINFAR on the anniversary of its creation, and highlighted their contribution as a bulwark in the defense of the socialist Homeland together with the people.

For his part, Salvador Valdes Mesa, vice president of the country, said that this 64th anniversary commemorates the work of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro and the guidance of Army General Raul Castro, founding minister of MINFAR.

In October 1959, at the Council of Ministers meeting of October 16, Law 599 was approved, which established the dissolution of the Ministry of National Defense, and Law 600, through which the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces was created with the appointment of Commander Raul Castro Ruz as its minister.

This institution directs, executes and controls the preparation of the citizens of Cuba for defense, involves the protection of the entire national territory, including the territorial sea and the air space over it, and is in charge of the preparation and execution of the armed struggle.
