FAO representative delivers donation to school in Havana

Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), accompanied the delivery of a donation from that organization to the Comandante Pinares Primary School of the Campo Florido Popular Council in the capital's East Havana municipality.

The shipment consists of means and implements for the integral attention to the school garden where the pioneers, along with their teachers and other workers of the center, participate in projects for the attention of these areas.

During the cultural event in appreciation of the support provided, the FAO representative highlighted the high commitment of the Cuban Government with the training of new generations and the efforts to ensure school nutrition.

In line with the slogan of the day: Water is life, water is food, leave no one behind, he talked with children about the urgent problems experienced globally by the scarcity of the precious liquid and how the issue impacts more concretely in less developed countries.

Rederio Valdes, principal of the school, told the Cuban News Agency that vegetables and condiments are grown in the garden, which has improved the quality of lunch at the educational institution and the training of children who have become interested in learning about the care of plants and family agriculture.

This action is a commitment to demand greater results in the work and to demonstrate with facts that the tools provided are in the right hands, he said.

Founded in 2002 as a result of the Battle of Ideas promoted by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the Comandante Pinares Elementary School has about 400 students and 70 workers and is one of the 74 centers of different educational levels throughout the country incorporated to the Network of Schools Associated to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
