U.S. Congress urged to denounce terrorist act against Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 27 (ACN) The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament) of Cuba urged the U.S. Congress to denounce the recent terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy in Washington and to enforce both its own laws and the international treaties and conventions it has subscribed.

Below is the text issued Tuesday by the Cuban Parliament:

Statement of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power

The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power joins the statement issued by the Cuban Foreign Ministry condemning this new terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy by U.S.-based elements of the terrorist right wing of Cuban origin.

Cuba has repeatedly denounced, both through official channels and public statements, the use by anti-Cuban sectors in Southern Florida of the media and social networks to promote systematic campaigns that incite violence and clearly terrorist actions against our country.

Once again, the International Relations Committee of the National Assembly calls on the U.S. Congress and its members to raise their voices in denunciation of this new terrorist act against our diplomatic venue and to demand that the Executive and competent authorities take the necessary steps to enforce the U.S. law and the international treaties and conventions to which the U.S. is a signatory, as well as to prevent once and for all the continued promotion and perpetration of terrorist acts from U.S. soil against our Homeland as a result of which more than three thousand Cuban families are mourning.

We denounce the double standards of the U.S. Government in its so-called fight against terrorism. While the US allows terrorist acts against Cuba to be encouraged and carried out with total impunity, it absurdly and illegitimately labels our country as a sponsor of terrorism, with the sole purpose of trying to justify its genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade, condemned by the entire international community.

The International Relations Commission, on behalf of all Cuban deputies, is grateful for the countless expressions of solidarity and support from parliamentary leaders, groups of friends of Cuba and parliaments of different countries who condemn this new terrorist act against our Embassy, as well as for their demand to put an end to the unjustified inclusion of our country in the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism drawn by the U.S. Government.
