Cuba Offers all Nations its Scientific Capabilities

Havana, Sept 20 (ACN) Cuba puts at the service of all nations its technological and scientific capabilities and its human resources to help the prevention, preparedness and response against current and future pandemics, said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel at the United Nations.

In his address at the UN High-Level Meeting (HLM) on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPPR), in New York city, the Cuban head of state called for the adoption of universal, re-distributive and supportive policies, in tune with the compromise to not leave anybody behind.

Pandemics can’t tell between ideologies or development levels, so facing them must be a global effort beyond political efforts, said the head of state.

Diaz-Canel denounced the strengthening of the US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba particularly under the COVID-19 pandemic which hindered the arrival in Cuba of medical supplies necessary at the time.

He stressed the development by the local bio-pharmeutical industry of three COVID-19 vaccines (Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala), and another two candidate vaccines (Soberana 01 and Mambisa)

The President said that while transnational corporations and the western richest states monopolized the necessary means to fight the pandemic in the worst moments, the Cuban nation cooperated by sending 58 medical brigades to 42 nations and territories of the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic imposed a sad and bitter lesson which we are forced to learn because it revealed the fragility of health systems and revealed the cruelty of inequities characterizing the world, he said.

On behalf of the Group of 77 plus China, Miguel Diaz-Canel, is heading the high-level Cuban delegation to the 78 Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
