Diaz-Canel congratulates Bolivia on anniversary of its Independence

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 7 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, sent congratulations to the people and the Plurinational State of Bolivia, which on Sunday celebrated the 198th anniversary of its independence.

The President highlighted the revolutionary process of the Bolivians and described it as an example in the history of the struggles of the people for their sovereignty and the recovery of natural resources.

History marks Bolivia's Independence Day on August 6, 1825, date on which the president of the Assembly Jose Mariano Serrano along with a commission drafted the Act of Independence in homage to the battle of Junin won by Bolivar.

Through a decree, it was determined that the new State would bear the name of Bolivar in honor of the Liberator who was also appointed Father of the Republic and Supreme Head of State.

Bilateral relations between Cuba and Bolivia began in January 1983 and experienced their greatest boom in cooperation and understanding during the term of office of Evo Morales.
