Havana, July 31 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee and Cuban President headed through a video-conference the most recent session of the Council of Ministers’ Executive Committee on some of the country’s social and economic issues.
According to the Cuban Presidency, the meeting led by Premier Manuel Marrero focused on the food production, the distribution of the rationed food basket, cargo and passenger transportation, water supply and power generation, among others.
Cuban Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy said that no power cuts occurred over the past week as all generation units expected to be operating at this time are doing so, with the exception of one unit which is to start operations in August.
The Cuban president addressed the improvement of the fuel supply and he insisted in looKing forwards to the coming days and months and keep implementing the actions approved.
As to the drinking water supply, the President of the Water Resources Institute Antonio Rodriguez assured that progressive improvement is taking place after the setting up of new equipment in various territories.
In the capital Havana, where water supply has been affected by the breakdown of pumping equipment, power instability in major supply systems and the impact of electric discharges, Rodriguez said that the number of affected households must decrease as new pumping equipment are mounted after having arrived at the Havana harbor.
The mounting of the new equipment is scheduled to take place August 10 to 13, to again bring water supply to normal, Rodriguez said.
The meeting also addressed food production and control of high prices of consumer goods and services, as a major issue at the center of debates at the most recent session of the Cuban Parliament.
The Executive Committee approved a program to advance banking in the country, which encourages the use e-commerce and electronic payment gateways for different services.
The meeting was also attended by Cuban Vice-President Salvador Valdes, Cuban Communist Party’s Organization Secretary Roberto Morales, and members of the Communist Party’s Politburo and deputy prime ministers and ministers in different government sectors.
