HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban Prime Minister, congratulated today, on Twitter, the Popular Camping collective for the 42nd anniversary of its creation.
On May 16, 1981, at the initiative of Fidel Castro, the first camping sites were created in Cuba, initiating this recreational modality that promotes contact with nature, the Cuban premier recalled in a tweet.
On this date, Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, recalled the date and congratulated the founders and continuers of the Popular Camping network.
Juan Carlos Garcia Granda, Minister of Tourism, valued the work of these institutions as optimistic, growing in their spaces, faithful to the concept of their recreational option, in total harmony with the environment.
In 1981, the Young Communist League created the first six camping sites, including La Caridad, Cueva de los Portales, Salto de los Portales, Cajaibana, El Calvario and Pica Pica, in the province of Pinar del Rio (westernmost province).
Later, the experience was extended to the whole country and there are already 105 facilities, many of them in the middle of a rural environment.
