Vietnamese authorities highlight visit of Cuban interior minister

HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) The Vietnamese minister of public security, General To Lam, described as very significant the visit of Major General Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas, head of the Cuban ministry of interior ( MININT), to his country.

According to Prensa Latina, when he received his Cuban counterpart in Hanoi, on Monday, General To Lam said that the visit, the first ministerial visit since 2010, makes an important contribution to the relationship between the two countries in general and between the two portfolios in particular.

The Vietnamese public security minister expressed his pleasure that the traditional friendship between the two countries and ministries will be maintained and increasingly strengthened and developed on the basis of trust, understanding, respect and brotherly affection between comrades-in-arms.

In the talks, the two sides agreed to improve the exchange of experiences, equipment and skills training for police officers, especially in protection techniques and in the prevention, development and detection of terrorist plots, reported a statement on the website of the ministry of public security, quoted by Prensa Latina.

They also decided to deploy cooperation in the research and production of medicines, vaccines and biological products, including those that have been successfully researched and applied in the treatment of patients in Cuba.

On his first day of activities in Hanoi, Alvarez Casas also received the Friendship Medal for his contribution to promoting cooperation between Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security and Cuba's Ministry of Interior, helping to ensure national security and the maintenance of social order.
