With these results, which enhance the performance of the Maternal and Infant Program (PAMI by its Spanish acronym), the province turns around what was reported in 2022, when this indicator ended at 7.0.

So far this year, 1,316 births have been reported in this eastern territory, although with a low birth weight index of 5.9, which is considered high, explained Dr. Osmara Lopez, in charge of PAMI at the Provincial Health Directorate.

The expert stated that work is being done to improve the protocols of action in order to achieve efficient health care, with the intervention of specialists in Gynecobstetrics, Perinatology and Neonatology, as well as the commission of attention to mothers.

In Las Tunas, several strategies are applied to promote genetic programs and strengthen intersectoriality from Primary Health Care, with the preparation of the professionals who make up the Basic Work Groups, in the face of preconception risk and the prevention of teenage pregnancy.
In addition, a training plan for health professionals who are part of the PAMI, the development of research activity and promotion strategies to modify habits and increase self-responsibility are also implemented.
