HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) The Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, as representative of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), reported back to the deputies through its vice president Ana María Mari Machado, who described the systematic actions of her higher State body since 2019 despite COVID-19 and the complex political and economic situation affecting Cuba and the world.
She remarked that the Constitution of the Republic, approved three years ago, gave new powers to the Council of State, including the study of bills to be submitted to the ANPP and the control and oversight of State bodies.
Since 2019, Mari Machado remarked, 65 decree-laws have been issued that cover the system of science, technology and innovation; international cooperation; animal welfare; pregnancy among working women; the state enterprise system; and family responsibilities, among other topics.
The debates focused on the activity of parliamentary commissions regarding key issues such as the monitoring of the economy, food production, and the fulfillment of the legislative schedule.
Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa, who chaired the Temporary Working Committee in charge of evaluating the report, praised the results of the Council of State during the period and the way it abides by the Constitution of the Republic.
