Diaz-Canel: We have to bet on and achieve a prosperous economy

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (ACN) Cuban First secretary of the Communist party Miguel Díaz-Canel said during a speech at the Fifth Plenary Session of the political organization that Cuba has to bet on and achieve a prosperous and sustainable economy, even under conditions of an intensified blockade.

In a tweet published on the Party's official website, the President of the Republic reiterated that the blockade must be overcome from within and by ourselves.

On the economic issue Díaz-Canel said that this has been an intense year of debate about which economic measures should be applied, many need to be perfected, others will begin to have an impact if they are well implemented, he added.

During the analysis of the economic situation, Alejandro Gil Fernández, Minister of Economy and Planning, pointed out that we have an economy with imbalances, with polarized sectors that accentuate these monetary imbalances. There is a deterioration of the purchasing power of the income, especially in the budgeted sectors, he stated.

The meeting was informed that social security has protected 1,685,231 million people, and that the generation of jobs, the main way to face situations of vulnerability and income for work contributed, is valued as positive,

He emphasized that one of the country's priorities is to stabilize the national electric power system, for which reason a strategy was designed to increase availability and minimize the impact on the service due to generation capacity deficits.

In this sense, resources are allocated to carry out other projects in 2023, such as the payment of mobile generation, repair of motors, CTE parts and pieces, photovoltaic solar parks, grids, transformers and substations.

Other topics discussed this Saturday are the situation with the fuel and energy deficit, the slowdown in cement, steel, agriculture, sugar industry and other items, the behavior of exports of goods such as nickel, tobacco, rum, honey and sea products, among others.
