
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) Cuban youths celebrated today the 52nd anniversary of the creation of the Federation of High School Students (FEEM by its Spanish acronym), an organization committed to the Revolution and its achievements.
This Federation, which arose with the impetus of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, reaches its new birthday stronger, with a cheerful and committed student body, said Hamlet Alvarez Aguiar, its national president, during the event at Mariana Grajales Park in Havana.
He referred to the current challenges that motivate FEEM to continue working to better represent the heterogeneous student body of the Caribbean nation and called for the necessary improvement of the organization.
The occasion served to constitute the FEEM National Council, the highest governing body of the federation between Assemblies and whose purpose is to establish the projections and analyze the results of the work of the school year.
The ceremony was presided over by Jose Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and head of its Department of Attention to the Social Sector; Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, deputy prime minister of the country; and Aylin Alvarez Garcia, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and of the Council of State and first secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist League.
Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella, Minister of Education; Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture; and Osvaldo Vento Montiller, President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation also attended.
The Federation of High School Students was created in 1970, after uniting the members of the Union of High School Students (UES by its Spanish acronym) and the Jose Antonio Echeverria Student Brigades (BEJAE by its Spanish acronym), which represented a step forward in the organizational development of the student movement.
