HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (ACN) The 2,748 polling stations in Cuba that went to second round in the elections for delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power concluded the voting in a satisfactory manner, the National Electoral Council (CEN) assured on Sunday.
Transparency and high participation prevailed in the 925 constituencies where none of the nominees reached more than half of the required valid votes, as provided by Law 127 of 2019 (Electoral Law), Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez, president of the CEN, told the press.
She informed that they expect that there will be around nine circumscriptions, from seven Cuban provinces, which will carry out the third round; if necessary, it will take place on Thursday of next week, where the candidates who obtain the most votes will be the delegates.
The conditions are also created for this process, she added.
She explained that for this round, the CEN adopted measures regarding logistics, communications and training of the authorities involved.
Balseiro Gutiérrez recalled that 139 of the 168 municipalities in the country had at least one constituency in the second round, and Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Guantánamo and Granma are the provinces with the largest number of polling stations in that condition.
The President of the CEN highlighted that next Wednesday they will offer all the official information to the Cuban and foreign press accredited in the country about the first and second round, so that the population may know the results in detail.
On December 17, the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power will be constituted at the same time, in addition to the election of their presidents and vice presidents and the appointment of secretaries.
These are the first elections after the restructuring of the Cuban electoral system and the enactment of a new electoral law under the Constitution approved in 2019.
