HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 2 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban communist party and president of the country, sent a big hug and congratulations to the members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR), who are celebrating their day today.
The head of state also recalled and thanked the historic generation of the Cuban Revolution, protagonists of the expedition of the Granma yacht in 1956, under the leadership of Fidel Castro.
Diaz-Canel marked the Day of the FAR, established in honor of the landing of the Granma on the southeastern coast of Cuba, with 82 men on board, an event that marked the beginning of a new stage in the struggle against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, which culminated with the triumph of the Revolution in January 1959.
In commemoration of these events, Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban PM, in a tweet acknowledged the work of the FAR at the forefront in the front line of battle, to defend Cuba and its sovereignty.
For his part, Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, congratulated those who belong to this military body, always ready to be on the front line of combat.
Esteban Lazo Hernandez, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, as part of his official visit to Russia and to commemorate this day, paid tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in front of the monument recently unveiled in Moscow's Sokol district.
Lazo Hernandez also congratulated the members of the glorious FAR.
Without the courage and determination of the 82 expedition members of the Granma yacht, it would not have been possible to achieve the dream of a Revolution on fire with freedom and justice, said Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, minister of foreign affairs, on the same social network.
The Cuban diplomat highlighted the loyalty of the FAR to the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
Through a tweet, the FAR leadership congratulated its active and reserve members, as well as all Cubans who have a place, a means and a way in the defense of the Homeland.
In that huge work of the FAR is implicit the altruistic and emancipating heritage that disembarked with the expeditionaries of the Granma yacht, 66 years ago, the text added.
From the Mexican port of Tuxpan, 82 expeditionaries led by Fidel Castro set sail on November 25 and landed at Las Coloradas, in the eastern part of the country, on December 2, 1956.
In 1961, that date was considered the founding date of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, a military body with a structure, equipment and preparation that guarantees the fulfillment of its combat missions.
