
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 28 (ACN) Alina Balseiro Gutierrez, president of the National Electoral Council (CEN) announced today that 5,728,220 Cuban citizens exercised their right to vote in the elections to elect delegates to the municipal assemblies of the People's Power.
The figure represents 68.58 % in relation to the total number of 8,351,311 registered voters, she pointed out when mentioning preliminary results of the election process on Sunday in the country.
Balseiro Gutierrez described as satisfactory the democratic day that showed the support of the people to their representatives and the trust in their Revolution.
She specified that 89.11 % of the ballots were valid, 5.22 % were blank and 5.67 % were annulled.
The official updated that in the first round 11,502 district delegates were elected, out of the 12,427 approved, for which the remaining 925 will go to the second round next Sunday, December 4.
She also noted that 43.87 % of those elected were Cuban women, 12.52 % were young people up to 35 years of age and 50.93 % were ratified as delegates.
Regarding the vote count, Balseiro Gutierrez emphasized that the popular exercise was accompanied with the tranquility, organization, discipline and compliance with the regulations in force that usually distinguishes it.
The head of the governing body of the elections in Cuba acknowledged in a special way the work carried out by the electoral authorities in the territories, those who collaborated voluntarily and the participation and support provided by the people throughout the development of the process, which she described as its main protagonist.
