HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 27 (ACN) Army General Raul Castro Ruz paid tribute this Friday to Fidel in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, six years after his departure, reports Granma newspaper.
The note adds that during the day he also participated in a mountain workshop, as a continuation of the celebration of the National Defense Day,
Raul personally placed a bouquet of flowers in front of the rock monument that holds the ashes of the Commander in Chief.
At dawn he came the homage to Martí, Fidel and other heroes of the Homeland, whose remains rest in this cemetery, a sacred place that shelters the history of a country.
Barely six hours into the day and there was Raul, firm, serene, in front of the Apostle's Mausoleum, accompanied by members of the Political Bureau, Army Corps Generals Alvaro Lopez Miera and Ramon Espinosa Martin, Minister and First Deputy Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, respectively; Major General Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas, Minister of the Interior; Brigadier General José Amado Ricardo Guerra, Secretary of the Council of Ministers, as well as the highest authorities of Santiago de Cuba and other eastern provinces of the country, and the main military chiefs of the Eastern Army.
From there, Raul went to a meeting, which took place at the Frank País García Mountain Studies Unit, where he learned of the strategies to raise the combat capacity in a context of unconventional warfare, the actions to confront crime, corruption and illegalities; as well as the functioning of the 226 defense zones existing in these mountains.
