MATANZAS, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) Political Bureau member Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People's Power, stressed that the municipal elections on November 27 will pave the way for the course of the Homeland.
“This election is especially important because we are voting for a unique political system that Fidel chose this province to launch, a system like no other, one that lets people propose, nominate, elect, revoke, participate and control, as those they elect are accountable to their constituency, which makes us remarkably strong,” he pointed out.
“However,” he added, “a delegate cannot just be seen as a material problem-solver, particularly now that the enemy claims that they solve nothing, given our economic difficulties. (…) We cannot be naïve in political matters lest there be a high price to pay. (…) Fidel used to say that the delegates are neighborhood heroes who have their own jobs but go on to represent and work for the community for free.
Lazo emphasized that those who fail to show up or invalidate their ballot paper are playing into the hands of those who want to stifle the Revolution, and in this election the Cuban people have to send a strong message of unity, firmness and decision to defend the Homeland and Socialism.
