Cuba demands solidarity and justice in the face of climate change

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) Elba Rosa Perez Montoya, Cuban minister of science, technology and environment (CITMA by its Spanish acronym), demanded today, in Egypt, to act on the basis of solidarity and financial justice to address climate change.

According to the foreign ministry, during her speech at the High Level Ministerial Segment of the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), the official explained that climate solidarity means thinking about those who are losing their living conditions, changing
unsustainable consumption patterns and helping the most vulnerable.

Financial justice is to make new and additional funds available to compensate for losses and damages and implement the adaptation measures we need; to simplify procedures and agree on a new financial goal, she expressed.

Perez Montoya, who heads the Caribbean delegation at COP 27, assured that what is at stake is sustainable development, poverty eradication and human subsistence.

The time to adopt the necessary decisions and actions to reverse climate change is running out, therefore, we must take actions consistent with history and not forget that the roots of the problem lie in the capitalist system, responsible for a predatory and consumerist development model, the Cuban minister declared.
