HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 14 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel mourned today the death of Jesus Cabrera, National Television Award winner and director of popular series for that sector, such as En silencio ha tenido que ser (In silence it had to be), Julito el Pescador (Julito the Fisherman) and Sector 40.
On Twitter, Cuban leadfer, extended his condolences to the relatives, friends and colleagues of the renowned television director, who died on Sunday in Havana at 96.
The president said in his message that Jesus Cabrera was a magician of the audiovisual media, father of programs that are part of the affective memory and heritage of Cuba.
He was a pioneer of television in the country and particularly, founder of the sector in the province of Santiago de Cuba, with the creation of the Tele-Rebelde Channel.
Along with his mark from his professional practice, he maintained a close and sustained link with the Faculty of Media Arts and Audiovisual Communication (FAMCA), since its opening.
In that academic institution, from 1988 to 2000, he was the founding Dean, when it was called the Faculty of Film, Radio and Television, of the Higher Institute of Art.
