HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez congratulated Cuban firefighters, who are celebrating their day today, and thanked them for their dedication and courage in the line of duty.
The date has its origin in the birth of the Cuban Fire Department in the province of Villa Clara on November 13, 1696, but it was not until 1832 that the Foundation of the Fire Department was established in this city, from where it spread across Cuba.
The celebration pays tribute not only to the men and women engaged in the prevention and extinguishing of fires and in rescue-and-salvage actions, but also to the untrained volunteers who have saved lives for hundreds of years.
