SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) George Michael Edward Hollingbery, ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Cuba, visited the Marta Abreu University of Las Villas (UCLV), the Provincial Government headquarters and local economic actors to learn about social and economic projects and programs launched by UCLV in cooperation with foreign entities and companies.
The diplomat asked about the teaching of English language in Cuban universities and the strategies of the students to upgrade their knowledge of what is considered a universal language, taking into account that UCLV pioneered Cuba’s current English language learning policy, based on the European model of foreign language teaching.
Provincial governor Alberto López Díaz thanked the Ambassador for his government's vote at the United Nations against the U.S. blockade of Cuba.
In this respect, Mr. Hollingbery asked about its effects on sugar production in the province, affected by the lack of batteries, tires, parts and, above all else, fuel, as a result of the said U.S. Cuba policy.
