HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) The first training course in disaster risk management, rescue and saving lives in collapsed structures and civil protection is now in its fourth day in Havana.
The event is implemented by the Government of Havana and the UN Development Program Fund (UNDP), with the financial support of the European Union and the European Civil Protection Mechanism, and is attended by specialists in canine techniques, the Civil Defense and the Red Cross.
Daniela D'Urso, coordinator for the Caribbean of the Directorate General for Civil Protection and European Humanitarian Aid Operations, was present at the opening ceremony.
The European delegation donated the equipment with which they train their Cuban colleagues, a motor-disc, a chainsaw, stretchers and first aid implements, among other tools for working on collapsed structures.
The visitors toured the laboratories of the Cuban-Russian Regional Rescue and Firefighters Training Center, opened in July 2014 at the Martires de la Calle Patria National Firefighters School.
