Cuban largest thermoelectric plant begins maintenance days to improve efficiency

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 7 (ACN) The Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), Cuba's largest unitary block, will be out of service for 12 days for maintenance to repair as many defects as possible and to clean the boiler.

According to a report in Granma newspaper, this industry, located in Matanzas province(western Cuba), shut down on Saturday from the National Electric System due to a failure in the regenerative air heaters, and it was decided to continue with a more exhaustive maintenance, as part of the country's strategy to improve the availability of generation.

The Electric Company ( UNE by its Spanish acronym) specifies that at this moment, the most sensible thing to do is to go beyond the light patching which, until now, had been of only three or four days, in order to provide a little more permanence and efficiency to the main components of the unit.

The entity said that the contribution of Guiteras to the system is key, and by not being on line, the generation capacity deficit is increased, but this intervention aims to achieve a stable generation of over 230 megawatts (MW), until the capital maintenance that CTE has needed for several years is viable.
