HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 26 (ACN) The Institute of Meteorology announced in its 13th Tropical Cyclone Advisory that Ian kept strengthening and, early this morning, became the fourth hurricane of the present season, all of them formed in September.
Ian has maximum sustained winds of 120 kph with higher gusts and a minimum central pressure of 983 hP as it moves northwest at 22 kph. At 5:00 a.m., it was located 380 km south-southeast of the Isle of Youth, about 515 km southeast of Cape San Antonio, Cuba’s westernmost tip.
As of the late morning, cloudy skies will prevail in this area with possible heavy rains and increasingly stronger winds in some locations across the western and central provinces. Storm surges are also expected in low coastal regions.
The next tropical cyclone advisory will be issued today at noon.
