HAVANA, Cuba, May 10 (ACN) Representatives of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym) and the ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym) received today, in Havana, a container of medical supplies sent by the National Association of Italy-Cuba Friendship (ANAIC ) to support the fight against the COVID-19.
Rigoberto Zarza Ross, ICAP's director for Europe, said that the cargo is a symbol of the commitment with the Caribbean nation and the will to support it in the face of the limitations and the tightened economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.
The executive explained that the value of the resources is estimated at more than 621,000 Euros, a sum which, joined to the donations made by the organization during the two years of the pandemic, exceeds one million Euros in solidarity aid.
Zarza Ross explained that the donation also includes articles for artistic education, destined to a community project that ANAIC supports in Baracoa, Guantanamo (eastern Cuba), and sports equipment for baseball practice sent to the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.
Yamira Palacios Sanchez, head of the collaboration department from MINSAP, noted that the medical supplies will have a positive impact on care in the health institutions, and thanked on behalf of the ministry all the people who made this genuine and true show of solidarity possible.
COVID-19, she added, has confirmed to us that international cooperation is vital in this type of situation; saving lives has to be the priority at this time.
