Mexican philosopher and journalist highlights strategic role of communication

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 5 (ACN) Communication should represent a top priority for the world's progressive movements, Fernando Buen Abad Dominguez, a prominent Mexican thinker, filmmaker and specialist in the Philosophy of Image and Communication, Cultural Criticism, Aesthetics and Semiotics, said today in Havana.

During a master lecture given at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana, Buen Abad Dominguez referred to the escalation of media manipulation resulting from the events of July 11 in Cuba, for which he proposed a greater articulation of the revolutionary forces in order to neutralize the campaigns aimed at internal subversion.

Buen Abad, who is also Master in Political Philosophy and PhD in Philosophy, assured that in Cuba a battle of continental dimension is being carried out that places the left before the urgency of productive self-criticism and theoretical development capable of positioning the counter-hegemonic discourse and rescuing concepts usurped by the neo-liberal myth.

The member of the Advisory Council of TeleSur, of the World Association of Semiotic Studies, of the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity and of the International Movement of Documentary Filmmakers declared that we have the challenge of confronting sophisticated machines of ideological warfare and for this we must educate communities that are increasingly aware of the causes of their struggles.

In a scenario where NATO's guiding principles recognize that the next battlefields will be the brain and human consciousness, the alternative of resistance to the axes of power consists in strengthening the revolutionary project and updating its agendas, he concluded.

The visitor received the Seal of the University of Havana from Miriam Nicado Garcia, rector of the University of Havana, in recognition of his outstanding intellectual performance in defense of a fairer and more humanistic model of information and communication society.

The meeting was also attended by Ricardo Ronquillo Bello, president of the Association of Cuban Journalists, and members of the university council, professors and researchers.
