Big Efforts to Bring the People Drinking Water in Eastern Cuba amidst Severe Drought



Camaguey, April 4 (ACN) Following the rehabilitation of water pipes, pumping stations and networks, authorities in this eastern Cuban province expect to improve the distribution of drinking water to the local population amidst severe drought impacting several territories in the country.

The president of the Cuban Institute of Water Resources, Antonio Rodriguez, said that despite the difficult scenario affecting the country ongoing infrastructure investment projects will help improve water distribution.

The executive said that priorities include the construction of over 3 kilometers of pipe to bring water to a local community called Quang Tri in the municipality of Jimaguayu; the activation of water well that will provide 20 liters of water per second in the locality of Santa Cruz del Sur, one of the territories hard hit by the drought.

Other works include the reactivation of a pipe that will bring water an industrial center in Nuevitas city, and along with this the fixing of water pipes to prevent the loss of the liquid.

The distribution of water to economic areas like the sugar sector and the food production industry is also a priority in the province of Camaguey.
