HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 9 (ACN) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez lamented today on his Twitter account the tragic accident that took place at a tourist destination in Minas Gerais, Brazil, where eight people were killed and dozens injured.
“Our condolences and solidarity for those affected," the president wrote on the social network.
The accident happened on Saturday in Minas Gerais when a wall of rock collapsed on top of leisure boats sailing through Furnas Lake at Capitolio, in Minas Gerais state.
First responders on the site of the tragic event said that it was possible that some people were still missing.
The Brazilian news outlet O Tempo contacted Rovilson Teixeira, a witness of the accident. “We are all astonished, nobody knows the exact number of victims, but I can tell you that there many more than just one or two, as well as many people injured. The region is full of ambulances that came from other areas to pick up the victims, but nobody is fully aware yet of the magnitude of this tragedy,” he said.
