Cuban VP continues extensive tour in central province of the country

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 7 (ACN) Cuban vice president Salvador Valdes Mesa said today that the great challenge of the province of Sancti Spiritus is to grow in sugarcane production.

Speaking about his visit to this central Cuban territory, Valdes Mesa noted on Twitter that in order to fulfill this aspiration, it is essential to advance and comply with the planting plan.

The vice president's visit evaluated the start of the sugar harvest at the Melanio Hernandez sugar mill in the municipality of Taguasco.

He commented that the process has not started well, but the territory is in time to stabilize the milling process and recover the backlog.

Likewise, in another message, he stressed the need to take care of the communities and bateyes in the countryside, reestablish basic services and the living conditions of the population.

Sugar cane production was a priority issue on Thursday's tour, when Valdes Mesa, who is also member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, visited important economic centers in this province.

In an exchange with workers and executives, he indicated that in the current context, the country needs the projected quantities of sugar to be able to meet its domestic commitments, and then to ensure volumes of crude oil for other essential tasks of the economy.

Cuban VP also stated the need for the provincial and municipal governments to get closer to the daily routine of the sugar harvest, and called for a good organization of the planting campaign to complete what was scheduled, in order to have more raw material available for the coming harvests.
