Diaz-Canel rejects US sanctions against Cuban officials

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 7 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, president of Cuba, rejected today on Twitter the new sanctions of the U.S. government, which restrict visas to eight officials from the Caribbean nation.

The head of state pointed out that Washington's punishments, now with names and surnames, have never ceased to happen against the entire Cuban people.

On Thursday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced new measures against Cuban officials, allegedly involved in the detention and judicial prosecution of participants in the violent events of July 11, 2021.

According to the press release, the U.S. State Department implemented these actions in accordance with Presidential Proclamation 5377, which suspends the entry of Cuban government officials and employees.

In this regard, the Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, pointed out that the United States is still in the bad habit of trying to impose its will on other governments by means of unilateral coercive measures.
Cuban diplomat also ratified that such announcement does not affect Cuba's determination to defend its sovereign rights.
