Cuban central province to have a new Atlas based on geotechnologies

CAMAGUEY, Cuba, Jan 4 (ACN) The preparation of a new Atlas, based on geotechnologies, is one of the projects carried out with the participation of several institutions in the province of Camaguey, the first to offer a regional cartographic work in the late 1980s.

Under the leadership of the Environmental Research Center of Camaguey (CIMAC by its Spanish acronym), the program will be divided into two phases, the first of which began last August and will last until 2022 and includes the design of all the contents to be included in it.

The second stage corresponds to the implementation and obtaining of the product, which will be available on the web, will have its updating period and will be of continuous enrichment, explained to Cuban News Agency Isis Hernandez Sosa, head of the biodiversity department at the aforementioned Center.

At the initial stage, the maps, sections, headings and videos to be included in the platform, based on free software, will be determined, in addition to the definition of the visual design, identification and the intellectual property policy linked to a work of such magnitude.

To date, it will have six sections and, as a novel element, it will be the first in the country to intend to show the results in line with the National Program for Economic and Social Development until 2030, the Master in Geography said.

The topics to be presented are nature and its natural resources, population, settlements and their quality of life, economic and productive transformation, climate change and disaster risk management, municipality and governance, and history and historical and cultural heritage.

More than 20 institutions and around 100 specialists from different fields such as historians, geographers, mathematicians and computer scientists will be involved in the preparation of the work, which will facilitate the interpretation of scientific information and provide technological tools to decision-makers in this region of the country.
