More than 1,000 irregular migrants sent back to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 27 (ACN) With only five days left to reach the end of the current year, the number of irregular migrants sent back to Cuba by the U.S. amounts to 1,019.

Recently, the U.S. Coast Guard Cuba returned 39 irregular migrants at Orozco Bay, the province of Artemisa.

According to the website Razones de Cuba, the migrants were involved in four recent illegal departures off the northern coast of the provinces of Matanzas, Artemisa and Havana.

The communication also stresses that, upon their arrival, the returned Cubans went through all the relevant health protocols, taking into account the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic in Cuba and the world.

It was reported that these illegal migrants used means hardly suitable for navigation, as well as a stolen sport fishing boat also inadequate for this type of journey.

Razones de Cuba emphasizes that their purpose was to reach U.S. territory to benefit from the Cuban Adjustment Act without considering the dangers involved in their decision.

It also mentions that the return of these individuals was possible thanks to the cooperation between the authorities of both countries, and insists that Cuba is in favor of a safe and organized migration procedure.
