Havana, Dec 24 (ACN) Cuba’s First Deputy Premier Ricardo Cabrisas and the president of China’s National Development and Reform Commission He Lifeng signed the Cooperation Plan between both governments to jointly promote the Economic Belt of the Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Route of the 21st Century.
According to the Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Ministry, the document is the mechanism to implement a MOU between both governments which includes Cuba in China’s Silk Belt and Road Initiative.
The Cooperation Plan aims at boosting joint efforts in priority sectors for Cuba, such as infrastructure, education, health and biotechnology, communications, science and technology, tourism among others. It also includes projects to be jointly implemented in these areas for mutual benefit with the aim of consolidating and diversifying bilateral relations between China and Cuba and with other countries which have joined the initiative.
China’s Belt and Road Initiative was launched by the Chinese government in 2013 with the goal of creating a large infrastructure network uniting all member nations, boosting cultural exchange and strengthening international cooperation.
