Cuba marks 99th anniversary of the Federation of University Students



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 20 (ACN) Cuban authorities and political and mass organizations congratulated today the Federation of University Students (FEU by its Spanish acronym), on the occasion of its 99th anniversary Monday.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel congratulated on Twitter the members of that organization, which groups Cuban university students, and highlighted their commitment during the last year of confronting the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the same social media, Cuban PM Manuel Marrero shared the words of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, when he said that the young people of the FEU represent personalities such as Julio Antonio Mella, Jose Antonio Echeverria, Fructuoso Rodriguez and Frank Pais.

Likewise, the ministry of higher education sent congratulations to the Student Federation, which it described as "the oldest young organization in Cuba", and to those who have been part of its membership.

For her part, the first secretary of the Young Communist League (UJCby its Spanish acronym) Aylin Alvarez, pointed out on the same social media that the celebration for this birthday is not exclusive of university students, but of all the people, since the history of the FEU is part of the nation.

In addition, the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) also marked the date with a statement on its website highlighting the importance of the FEU in giving unity to the student movement and definitively integrating the University in the struggle to give back to the people their legitimate rights. The
Federation of University Students was created on December 20, 1922 by the young Cuban revolutionary Julio Antonio Mella (1903-1929).
