Cuban Telecommunications Company reestablishes services in eastern provinces after fire

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 17 (ACN) The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA by its Spanish acronym) reported today that as a result of uninterrupted work in recent hours, services have been restored in Granma and Guantanamo provinces, following the fire that occurred on Thursday afternoon at the main plant in Las Tunas.

In a message on Twitter, ETECSA said that corrective works are being carried out in Las Tunas, and voice and data services have been partially reestablished.

In other messages, the Cuban company stressed that the main goal of the company's workers is to recover communication among the affected people as soon as possible, giving priority to the residential sector.

They added that reinforcement brigades from nearby provinces and Havana should arrive in the morning.

Investigations into the cause of the incident are still underway, and they added they will keep informing the population through the mass media and the usual information channels.

ETECSA reported on Thursday that a fire broke out in the company's main power plant in Las Tunas, which affected all telecommunications services in that province.

The damage caused by the fire interrupted all types of telecommunications services, including WIFI, radio base, Internet connection and fixed telephones.
