Díaz-Canel: "This has been a year of victories for Cuba".

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 17 (ACN) Despite the adverse economic situation we are facing, this has been a year of victories for Cuba, said President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the Third Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), which is in session till this Friday in Havana.

In his speech, according to the Twitter account of the Presidency, Díaz-Canel said that the country was able to dismantle an intense and profound operation against the Revolution.

They wanted us to disappear and we are still alive, said the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC and President of the Republic.

"It has been a period of resistance and creation, considered the First Secretary, @DiazCanelB, at the III Plenum of the @PartidoPCC. We have to work knowing that the U.S. blockade is going to be maintained, and move forward with our own efforts."

The Cuban President acknowledged that in this stage the unity of the Cuban people around the Government and the Party has been strengthened, and said that in these difficult times we have acted firmly; without allowing ourselves to be subjugated or humiliated, we have resisted all the attacks in a creative way, he said.

He highlighted the country's efforts to return to normality after controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, with a balance as of today of 963,885 confirmed cases, 8,313 deaths and 955,199 recovered, a figure equivalent to 99.1 percent of the contagions.

In this regard, he pointed to the recent resumption of the school year, the opening of borders (last November 15), the holding of the Havana Biennial, the unstoppable legislative exercise, the recovery of the economy and the deployment of new actors.

"The country has returned to normality after controlling the #COVID19. The school year began, we opened the borders, the Biennial was made, the legislative exercise was not stopped, the economy is recovered and its new actors are deployed, listed the First Secretary."
He added that despite the limitations of the U.S. blockade, Cuba created its own vaccine candidates to fight the pandemic, and three of them are already vaccines (Soberana 02, Soberana Plus and Abdala).

"This small blockaded Island, he said, has achieved 5 vaccine candidates, three already vaccines, and we have also shared that with the world. The country has been saved and today we have some of the best indicators in the world. More than a month ago we opened borders and we continue with these results", refers another communication from the Presidency.

The Third Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the PCC is meeting for two days at the Havana Conventions Center.

One of its main objectives is to evaluate the fulfillment of the agreements derived from the II Plenum, through an information to be offered by the Political Bureau on the work carried out to date.
