HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 14 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, Cuban president, welcomes at the Palace of the Revolution, in Havana, the heads of delegations attending the 20th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), to be held today to coincide with the 17th anniversary of its constitution.
Accompanied by Bruno Rodriguez, foreign minister, the president greeted the heads of state and government and other senior officials who will represent their countries at this meeting, besides Sacha Llorenti, Executive Secretary of this integrationist entity, which will discuss plans aimed at further strengthening cooperation, solidarity, independence and sovereignty of the region.
After an intense year of confrontation with the COVID-19, during which the United States carried out meddling and destabilizing actions against members of the bloc, natural catastrophes and the consequences of the unjust world economic order, a group of economic, political and social actions for the post-pandemic stage are to be analyzed and approved.
Founded on December 14, 2004 by Commanders Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez through a treaty signed between Cuba and Venezuela, ALBA-TCP is currently made up of Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Grenada.
It was created as an alternative to the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), and 17 years after its creation, it is still active under the encouragement of those historic leaders, who advocated that it should be a platform for the integration of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, with emphasis on solidarity, complementarity, justice and cooperation.
