Heads of delegations arrive in Havana for 20th Alba-TCP Summit



HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) Heads of State and of Government are flying to Havana today to participate in the 20th Alba-TCP Summit, scheduled for December 14 to celebrate the 17th anniversary of this regional political coordination mechanism.

The heads of delegations from Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis arrived on Sunday and were received by Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Cuba.

According to press reports, the agenda of the regional meeting includes the analysis of COVID-19’s impact and the measures to tackle its effects, the presentation of work goals for 2022, and a discussion about the regional situation and US hegemony.

In 2021, the Alliance became more dynamic and improved the coordination of actions such as the creation of a humanitarian fund for COVID-19 vaccines and medicines, assistance to the people and government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines during the volcanic eruption, and the organization of several forums to promote cooperation in social and economic programs.

Established in Havana on December 14, 2004 by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez, leaders of the Cuban and Bolivarian Revolutions, respectively, Alba-TCP is comprised of 10 Latin American and Caribbean countries.
