HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez marked today the 27th anniversary of the Molecular Immunology Center (CIM), and described the institution as a jewel of science in the country.
On Twitter, the head of state highlighted the contribution of the CIM in the development of the Soberanas vaccines, against COVID-19.
The CIM was founded on December 5, 1994, and was the first Cuban biotechnology entity to adopt the technology for the production of recombinant proteins in mammalian cells.
It is part of the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Business Group (Biocubafarma) and is dedicated to the research, development, production and commercialization of drugs for the treatment of cancer and other chronic non-transmissible diseases.
The institution also worked on the procurement, development and large-scale production of the RDB protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, for use as an antigen in the anti-COVID-19 Soberana 01 and Soberana 02 vaccines.
