Starting today, 25th anniversary session of Havana Model UN

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) Havana's Capitol Building will host an extraordinary session for the 25th anniversary of the Havana Model United Nations (HAVMUN).

A group of 25 delegates selected on the basis of their results in previous meetings will participate in the debates, according to the Organizing Committee.

With the cooperation of the Cuban United Nations Association and the Federation of University Students of the University of Havana, the two sessions will be devoted to evaluate the development of multilateral strategies to cope with international challenges, the sponsors added. The second one will also include the approval of a draft resolution.

This HAVMUN celebrates the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the International Day of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the 30th anniversary of its ratification by Cuba, and the 25th anniversary of the World Program of Action for Youth.

The UN General Assembly established World Peace Day on September 21 and the World Program of Action for Youth on December 14, 1995.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international treaty of the United Nations, signed on November 20, 1989 and entered into force on September 2, 1990.

Early this month, the United Nations Children's Fund in Cuba recognized in an official statement the existing harmony between the Preliminary Draft of the Family Code and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
UNICEF offers support to the Cuban authorities in the implementation of the approved Code.
