HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the country, marked today on Twitter the 99th anniversary of Alma Mater, the country's oldest young magazine.
In his message, the head of state referred that this publication belongs to the revolutionary university students of all times, and urged its journalists to always honor the founders.
In the same social media, and on the occasion of its anniversary, Alma Mater highlighted that its greatest challenge is to place the publication once again in the place it deserves and, therefore, to reconnect it with its audiences.
The magazine was founded in November 1922 by student leader Julio Antonio Mella.
Its first edition included an editorial written by Mella, in which he expressed: "We will work for the unity of all Cuban students in a Federation that will make us strong and capable to defend our rights, to progress, to learn as young people the conveniences of brotherhood, of unity".
