Naval unit of the Eastern Army bent on protecting Cuban coasts

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Nov 18 (ACN) Actions to improve combat readiness in order to fulfill the assigned missions are part of the drills organized the year in a unit of the Revolutionary Navy of the Eastern Army.

Through practical and tactical activities, units, troops and officers alike display their preparedness for the defense of the Cuban waters, coasts and keys against any enemy action.

Frigate captain Abdel David Saad Aldana told ACN that they are engaged in navigation actions, shooting practice with artillery and infantry weapons, and the preparation of naval torpedoes for use in the region under their protection.

During the exercise, a gunboat goes out to sea and uses radio-technical equipment to collect the necessary information about the possible presence of enemy naval units in the area and act against them accordingly.

As part of the maneuver, a special detail gets ready for engagement until the mission is fulfilled, using camouflage and moving around the terrain to infiltrate and act from the enemy's rearguard.

For the young corvette lieutenant Yaneisy Socarras Laens, being a member of this special force—which Army General Raul Castro baptized ‘sea hornets’—is a great challenge to a woman. ¨That’s the reason that every time I commit myself entirely to our missions. These drills are intended to protect the sovereignty of our coasts, and they are proof that the Navy is sufficiently strong and prepared to defend the Revolution at all times,” she said.

Their technical readiness and capability to fully comply any mission were plain to see during their training sessions and testify to their devotion to the protection of our borders in times of peace.

The Revolutionary Navy, which celebrates its anniversary every September 5, makes it clear to any adversary that it is impossible to breach our borders and get away with it. It is how these naval units guarantee Cuban sovereignty.
