Cuba Advances its Climate Change Agenda

Havana, Oct 26 (ACN) Cuba keeps advancing its plan to face the challenges posed by climate change and honoring its commitments based on its contribution as a nation, said Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Addressing the Climate Action Meeting on Tuesday, the Cuban leader said that despite the unprecedented strengthening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for over 60 years now, the island keeps its commitment to the protection of the environment.

Diaz-Canel said Cuba expects that the upcoming UN Conference of the Parties on Climate Change--COP 26—finds real solutions and he noted that “we the revolutionaries believe in the Human Being, and in everything human beings can achieve with intelligence and willingness, particularly when they act with full awareness.

The Cuban president said saving life on the planet demands that developed countries take the lead in the reduction of gas emissions and in contributing to the developing nations. The resources are there, they only need to allocate a small portion of the multimillion sums currently used to boost the arms race, in order to favor climate actions.

The “Climate Action meeting; for Humanity, the Planet and Prosperity,” is a debate in the context of the 76 Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
