HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) “In an innovative and altruistic manner, Cuban science has been able to cope with the challenges posed by COVID-19,” Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez wrote today on his Twitter account.
In his post, Díaz-Canel pointed out that Cuba's development in the fight against the pandemic has taken place in the midst of the harsh conditions imposed by U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade and described as categorical the message that Cuban scientists sent to the world, in which they highlight the Island's capacity to stand up to COVID-19.
Following recent statements made by U.S. President Joseph Biden calling Cuba a failed state with failed health and science system, a wide range of Cuban scientists are sending him a letter with arguments that support the country's capacity and political will to deal with the current pandemic.
According to Mayda Mauri Pérez, first vice-president of the BioCubaFarma Business Group, Cuba is willing to cooperate but opposed to any interference by an outside agency, which she calls totally unnecessary to guarantee the immunization process, especially in a country currently boasting one of the world’s highest anti-COVID-19 vaccination indicators.
