Two eternal young men, Frank and Fidel, evoked on a single date

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Aug 11 (ACN) Two eternal youths: Frank and Fidel is the theme chosen by local institutions under the province of Santiago de Cuba’s Center for Cultural Heritage (CPPC) to evoke these two great men of history on Youth Day—August 12—and on the following day, the 95th birthday of the Commander in Chief.

These two revolutionaries who knew how to honor their commitment to the Homeland met in Mexico on August 8, 1956 and began to make plans for a future landing of fighters in Cuba and a general strike to support it, and they were together for the last time on February 17, 1957, when Frank País left for the Sierra Maestra Mountains before he was given the mission of organizing the nascent guerrilla force.

Specialists of the aforesaid Museum stressed that Frank and Fidel had great respect for and admired each other, the reason that the former strived to send reinforcements and weapons to the incipient Rebel Army in an effort decisively supported by Celia Sanchez.

Of the memorable meeting in the mountains photographs remain, including one showing Frank and Fidel and another with Raul Castro, Armando Hart, Universo Sanchez and Faustino Perez. The wine-colored shroud worn by the young man from Santiago de Cuba is currently an exhibit in the Museum.

Fidel praised Frank’s contribution to the cause when he wrote, "(…) when the history of this revolutionary stage is written, two names will have to appear on the cover: David and Norma," namely Frank and Celia, pillars of the struggle in the cities and key organizers of the first
reinforcements that the leader of the Revolution received while in the Sierra Maestra Mountains.
