Cuba ratifies its commitment to the fight against terrorism

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 29 (ACN) Cuba ratified today its commitment to the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including State terrorism.

During the Second United Nations High-Level Conference on Combating Terrorism, Cuban ambassador Pedro Luis Pedroso said that his country has had an exemplary performance in the fight against this scourge, as it has fulfilled and will continue honoring the commitments it has assumed in this area.

Pedroso recalled that the Caribbean island is a State party to the 19 international conventions related to terrorism, and has put into effect measures to confront it, reported on Twitter of the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN.

He also noted that Cuba's commitment to combat terrorism was elevated to constitutional rank in 2019.

In the same social media, the director of multilateral political affairs of the Cuban foreign ministry, Mirta Granda, stated that the Cuban diplomat denounced the elaboration of unilateral lists on the matter against some member states.

She also rejected double standards in the treatment of the issue and reaffirmed the value of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the primary responsibility of States to implement it.

The UN High-Level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States seeks to strengthen the international community's fight against the scourge of terrorism.
