GUANTANAMO, Cuba, Jun 11 (ACN) About twenty professionals from the University of Guantanamo(eastern Cuba) took part in the "First International Cuba-Spain Event: Vestiges of an Empire 500 years later", which after two fruitful days of online exchange concluded on Thursday in the multiplatform Jitsi Meet, with the participation of researchers from Spain, France, Germany, Mexico and Cuba.
In this first edition, about a hundred lectures were presented, most of them as a result of the research work of 27 PhDs and 43 MScs, national and foreign, 19 of them from the seven faculties of the Guantanamo university with impact studies in the social sciences, pedagogy and economics.
Several of the lectures given are part of thesis works generally oriented to the Spanish footprint in the world, and specifically to its legacy in the culture of America, key theme of the event, conceived in 2019 during the visit of the then rector of the Guantanamo University, Alberto Turro Breff, to the University of Cantabria, Spain.
The foreign participation was headed by the Mexican Claudia Adelaida Gil, researcher at the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas, and the German writer based in Spain Godfried Vranken, author of several studies and publications about the route of Christopher Columbus.
The sessions were attended by professionals from the Ibero-American House in Holguin, the Directorate of History and Marxism of the Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba, as well as the Offices of the City Conservator of Baracoa and Sancti Spiritus, and the Heritage Office of the Historic Center of the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana.
The closing ceremony was also held online, after a successful interactive forum with members of the university project Con Mochila al Hombro ("With Backpack on Your Shoulder"), who shared their experiences of socio-cultural work both in Guantanamo and in the Sucre Mission in the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where several of them are now collaborating.
