Cuba establishes its National Innovation Council



HAVANA, Cuba, May 25 (ACN) People from government and science (or a small representation of them) committed to the promotion of science and innovation in Cuba, will coincide from now on in the National Innovation Council, created Monday by Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, at the Palace of the Revolution.

This is the "consultative body of the State, of national character, which assesses the President of the Republic, aimed at recommending decisions to promote innovation in the functioning of the State, the Government, the economy and society in a coordinated and integrated manner, which contributes to the vision of the nation, as well as to the fulfillment of the National Economic and Social Development Plan in force".


The National Innovation Council (CNI) is also part of the efforts led by Diaz-Canel and Cuban scientists to make science and innovation processes in the country more multisectoral and multidisciplinary, beyond a governing body for these activities.


The constitution of the National Innovation Council was attended by PM Manuel Marrero Cruz, Deputy prime ministers Ines Maria Chapman Waugh and Alejandro Gil Fernandez, ministers, members of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and other members of the national scientific community and the entrepreneurial system.


It also includes the ministers of technology and environment; higher education; foreign trade and foreign investment; agriculture; the revolutionary armed forces; industry; energy and mines; and communications, the president of BioCubaFarma Group, five scientists who are experts in innovation and five businessmen who play relevant roles in areas of major interest for innovation.
