HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (ACN) On April 22, 1976, a terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy in Portugal took the lives of Adriana Corcho and Efrén Monteagudo, members of our foreign service, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla recalled today on Twitter, and stressed that the Cuban revolutionary diplomatic community pays tribute to its martyrs and remains faithful to their principles and legacy.
Every year members of Cuban diplomatic missions do homage to Adriana and Efrén, victims of a bomb that destroyed the facilities of the Cuban Embassy in Lisbon. “This act of terror was part of a spate of over 150 attacks against Cuban diplomatic missions and targets in more than 20 countries,” he emphasized.
Between 1975 and 1976, the anti-Cuban campaign included the detonation of explosives in the Cuban embassies in Peru, Mexico, New York and other places, as well as the mid-air explosion of a bomb placed in a Cuban airplane on October 6, 1976.
The barbarity of this attack gave rise in Lisbon to a wave of solidarity with the Cuban people. Hundreds of people gathered at once outside the Cuban embassy to voice their rejection of the crime and in support of the Cubans, the Cuban Foreign Ministry posted on its website.
